Meet Grey Fox Pottery: The Artists Behind Our Handcrafted Mugs

A great coffee mug is not to be underestimated.

It doesn’t just carry our coffee. It shows off our style, our character, our tastes. A great coffee mug has a story to tell.

When you’re drinking from a Fire Dept. Coffee mug — and why wouldn’t you be? — the story goes something like this:

The idea was born in Rockford, Illinois, by the founders of Fire Dept. Coffee, who knew that it wasn’t enough to make delicious coffee. So with a logo and an idea, they searched the country for the best creators of handcrafted coffee mugs.

They found Jack and Mike at Grey Fox Pottery.

Their studio is in a thriving arts district in Minneapolis, across the Mississippi River from downtown. Grey Fox Pottery’s next-door neighbor is Minneapolis Fire Station 11.

Jack and Mike, along with a team of local artists, have been crafting functional coffee mugs since 1989. We may be biased, but we believe that our Fire Dept. Coffee mugs are some of the best they’ve ever made.

They took our ideas and added their own creative touches. Each mug is handmade with the eye of an artist and the skill of a craftsman. So far, they’ve created seven custom mug designs for Fire Dept. Coffee customers.
